How do we feel about guyliner these days?
Not me getting back into emo music and wanting to live my high school dreams, nope…
@cassidy Dude, you got OUT of emo music?
(OK fine, I did too, but I'm diving back in to all my favorite midwestern emo bands these days)
@killyourfm lol mostly like shifted more towards the pop-punk and then alt-rock stuff. A bit of everything but less straight “emo” than a decade or two ago.
@cassidy My trajectory went something like:
Christian Rock (yes, really) > Glam Rock > Grunge > Emo > Rock > That super brief period of Polyphia and Progressive Metal > Rock > Can't Get Enough Promise Ring, Alkaline Trio, Turnstile, Movements, and Jealous Sound.
@killyourfm @cassidy Man and I thought I was the weird one that had Christian Rock while I was in school. Ngl there was Red, Thousand Foot Krutch, Switchfoot, Skillet, Kutless, 12 Stones, Jars of Clay, POD, Newsboys, Stryper…. These are unlocking memories for sure. Lol. I swear a lot of these rock bands were just using the Christian record studios to get their music out without much competition.
@posiris @killyourfm oh wow yeah even more memories unlocked, thank you. :)
@posiris @cassidy I have so many crystal clear memories of my time listening to Stryper, all the way down to the look of the cassette, and the way the j-card smelled (like a corn tortilla...)
When "To Hell With The Devil" came out, I was in such a (brainwashed?) state of mind, that I thought them singing "to hell with" was the coolest, most risque thing a Christian rock band could do.
Until The 77s had the AUDACITY to release a song called "Pray Naked."
Still remember the time in high school my mom found RED & POD CDs in my room and freaked out. Dad listened to all the old christian rock though. Like Petra.
@killyourfm @posiris @cassidy Sup, y’all. Still rollin’ deep over here.
