I’m diving into Home Assistant for the first time and I’m curious to hear what others think from a blind user’s perspective! I’ve been exploring the iPhone app with VoiceOver, and it seems pretty accessible so far.
Currently, I’ve got:
3 Amazon Echo devices
2 HomePod Minis
2 Ring Video Doorbells
SimpliSafe Security System
I’m looking to expand my setup soon and would love to hear from the community—what’s your experience with Home Assistant, especially when using screen readers? Is there anything I should keep in mind?
Also, if there’s a way to get in touch with support or help out with testing accessibility, let me know!

In November's newsletter we focus on why a smart home should be a reliable home. Smart home systems inevitably end up responsible for a lot of important things, it's critical that they work.
Read on to see how to improve reliability https://newsletter.openhomefoundation.org/local-equals-reliable/

Anyone familiar with #HomeAssistant integrations want to make my day? I would love a PlayStation Network integration that exposes my current game, so I can set the lights in my theater room to a matching scene automatically.
There appears to be a decent PSN API that should expose this. https://github.com/achievements-app/psn-api
This little leak sensor with Home Assistant just saved my basement! Water was backing up in our basement and Home Assistant alerted me and within 30 seconds I was able to shut off the water.
It was hard to miss that we were at GitHub Universe last month with all our posts for the meet up - but we haven't told you about all the fun we had yet!

A recent CR study found most smart appliance makers don’t support their software for as long as you expect, which could expose you to security issues and hacking! Read my full report here: https://tinyurl.com/5cawfxj9

is there a #SmartHome alternative to #HomeAssistant that's still self hosted?
This is really dumb and anti-consumer. Level is only giving Lock+ owners 60 days to upgrade their locks with the Matter firmware. If you miss that window, you’re out of luck.

Home Assistant is set up in the house, and tomorrow the dongle for connecting to Thread will arrive, so I can hook up the rest of the devices. Today, I replaced the last smart thermostat head in my home. Feeling good
My old smart home hack for my blind remote on the left (servos!) versus my new version (direct tapping the pcb). The new one is smaller and responds much faster but I miss watching the “fingers” stab the buttons when we adjusted the blinds! On the plus side, the remote now runs directly off the 3.3v line on the @seeedstudio Xiao C3 instead of its own battery! Just need to design and print a lid now!
Didn't have time to watch this month's release party live stream? No stress, this short video will help you catch up.

Bought two 4-packs of Kasa bulbs and replaced 5 of our Hue bulbs so far. They already work better. More reliable and faster to respond. #SmartHome
Has anyone moved on from #Tasmota to another open source #IoT firmware? If yes, then I’d be interested to hear about your reasons and what firmware you moved to. #SmartHome
