If you're following us here on Mastodon, you might know why open source matters. But just in case, here's a bit of insight from our participation at GUADEC, and how it relates to our mission!
I recorded a part 2, finished up editing the day’s talks into individual videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2uhSYQIqEw
Impromptu streaming attempt! Gonna edit some GUADEC videos and test out my streaming setup…
GNOME folks who attended or would be likely to attend GUADEC, there’s a community poll for you!
Would you prefer talks over the weekend with BoFs/workshops during the week, or talks during the week with BoFs/workshops over the weekend?
Just spent a couple of hours slicing up the first day of #GUADEC2023 streams into individual videos, thanks to:
• A reminder from @BrodieOnLinux
• A super amazing YouTube commenter who provided timestamps as a starting point
• Parabolic to download the entirety of GUADEC 2023 talks in original quality and format, in one go
• Video Trimmer to losslessly trim the talks
And… it wasn’t too bad!
GNOME intern Akshay Warrier made this to tease us mentors about the state of PRs reviews
By the way, Akshay wrote a pretty cool blog post about their experience at GUADEC

There is a link to the video of their great project presentation too.
#GUADEC2023 attendees remember to submit your post-event surveys! Your feedback helps us improve future conferences: https://events.gnome.org/event/101/surveys/
Finally caught up with design update of #GUADEC2023 - design work for all these years have been highlight for me and one of major reasons why GNOME matters, and team did not disappoint this year either. @cassidy have brought slides and reference to YouTube stream together https://cassidyjames.com/talks/guadec-2023/gnome-design-state-of-the-union/ - go check it out, it is amazing stuff #GNOME #Design #FreeDesktop
p.s. yes, I organized a thing, but I really did not have much time to watch this
Here’s what I got up to in Rīga, Latvia for #GUADEC2023.

If I spent some time with you over the week and forgot anything, let me know! I can amend the blog post—so much happened and I didn't take as good of notes as I could have.

If on August 1st you were:
- in Riga, or
- on a flight to Amsterdam, or
- at Schipol, or
- on a flight to Heathrow
Then you should test yourself.
@alatiera enjoyed attending some BoFs remotely! I carried him around on the tablet. #GUADEC2023
Does anyone knows if #Fedora #Flock has any streams? Kinda itching to have more conference content after #GUADEC2023 blues.
So we'll have a neat little camera indicator in #gnome45.
It will only show up for apps that use #PipeWire for camera access so we depend on more apps switching to that.
During the #GUADEC2023 "State of the Shell" talk I was asked what incentives there are for app developers to do so and unfortunately I messed up to make the probably most convincing ones, so short
1. support for modern cameras via #libcamera (as opposed to only #v4l2 / UVC cameras).
#GUADEC2023 is officially over! Thank you to everyone who joined us online and in-person, and a huge thanks to all our amazing sponsors.
Attendees, make sure to check your email for links to the post-event survey. Your feedback helps us make future GUADECs even better!
Finally made it to my home in Denver after waking up in Rīga 28 hours ago. I'm exhausted. #GUADEC2023
A challenge proposed by @jjardon for #GUADEC2024 in Denver: we try to go the whole week using only GNOME for our phones. No iPhone, no Android, just GNOME OS or postmarketOS or whatever with GNOME on top.
Navigate with Maps, wake up with Clocks, share our adventures with Snapshot and Tuba, communicate with Fractal, etc.
Think that sounds impossible today? We have one year to get things into shape before then!
We had a fantastic time exploring Northern Latvia with the #GUADEC2023 group!
Thanks to our local team for organizing such a great tour!
I’m sitting at an airport waiting for my connection to Denver (where GUADEC 2024 is happening, if you haven’t heard!), so I wrote a blog post.
Huge props to @pietrodc0 for kicking this discussion off in a hallway at GUADEC, and @hughsie for all his work on ODRS itself.
Let’s talk about stars and thumbs.
